Is the United States economy doing well since the Great Recession? It is, according to economic data. I base my argument on the answers to three states concerning the health of the macroeconomy. The first goal is that of full employment. Full employment is a state in the economy where virtually all who are willing and able to work are employed. The second goal focuses on economic growth, or the growth of our GDP. This is the value of all finished goods and services produced in the United States in a given time period. Good economic growth can be measured by the rate of growth of the GDP. The third goal seeks price stability. Is the value of the dollar inflating, deflating, or staying constant? If the answers to these questions are positive, then it can be stated that our economy is in good shape. We can gauge approximately how well the people in our economy are doing by measuring the unemployment rate. The unemployment rate is the percentage of people who are unemployed divided by th e number of people who are in the labor force. If we observe the most recent data for unemployment, we can see that the rate is 5%. A month ago, the rate was 4.9%. A year ago, it was 5.1%. However, during the end of the great recession, the unemployment rate was 9.5%. Thus, our economy has come a long way from the recession in terms of unemployment. The Life Of King Henry VIII King Henry VIII was born in 1491. Henry was the third child of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. He was seen as a promising young prince due to his outgoing personality, and intelligence. Traditionally the first male heir of the royal family is successor to the thrown, but unfortunately, the first born; Arthur died quite unexpectedly at the young age of fifteen. This sudden tragedy has placed Henry as the unforeseen heir to the throne. King Henry VIII was looked upon as the perfect young king during his early reign; he had received an outstanding amount of schooling, and he spoke many languages. Not only did he fall under the category of an intellect but as an athlete as well. He was experienced and talented in jousting, hunting, tennis and archery. However, as Henry grew older history has shown scholars a change in this once beloved king. King Henry VIII proved to rule tyrannically due to his thirst for blood, power, and a male heir to succeed him. The King decided to take on a new Queen; Anne Boleyn. He hoped Anne would be the answer to his prayers and would give him the son that he so desperately longed for. But in d ivorcing Catherine, Henry had been required to make a split with the Roman Catholic Church, which had gone against King Henrys wishes and refused his request for the divorce. In the process of King Henry VIII trying to reach absolute power by separating from the Church he had dramatically transformed the Church in England. King Henry VIII had hoped that by limiting the power of the pope it would make his chances of the divorce going through successful much easier. But if this did not work, the king had been prepared to take total control of the Church in England so he could obtain a divorce without the permission of the pope (Worth 64). King Henry VIII had imprisoned numerous citizens who did not support the Reformation or the kings new position as head of the Church. Some were even sent to the scaffold, including two well recognized men through out England; Bishop John Fisher, and Sir Thomas More. The death of two distinguished men such as More and Fisher sent shock waves through o ut England and Europe. Some of Henrys subjects who had supported the Reformation now began to wonder if the king had become a tyrant (Worth, 75). Henry VIII has had 6 marital affairs throughout his reign as king of England. This was a big scandal during the time of the Renaissance, seeing as divorce was uncommon. King Henrys first wife was originally his brother Arthurs betrothed. King Henrys ultimate goal was to create a male heir to succeed him and in all the time he was married to Katherine of Aragon, only a daughter was produced and numerous stillborn sons. This infuriated Henry, and along with the conniving Anne Boleyn who used lust and her wit as her weapon, King Henry was driven to divorce this woman of virtue. This separation was clearly an act of selfishness on King Henrys part; he drove the church into the ground for this divorce to take place, due to his lust for Anne Boleyn and obsession with creating a son. Things only got worse once the King was married to Anne Boleyn. King Henry did not expect her to be so opinionated and involved with both his political and personal affairs. Being a man with a love for absolute power, this displeased him and his interest in her began to wane, and he turned his attention to Jane Seymour. While pursuing Jane Seymour Henry began to become infuriated by Anne, not only was she ill-tempered but she was not producing a son. Cromwell immediately devised a conspiracy against Anne Boleyn which would ultimately allow Henry VIII to not only divorce his new wife, but to have her killed. He and Cromwell without acknowledging the fact to each other, both knew that they were parties to a plot to do away with an innocent woman for the sake of expediency (Weir 310) Anne Boleyn was beheaded on the charges of Treason, Adultery, Incest, and plotting to kill the king. King Henry moved on to marry Jane Seymour, who gave him a son, she died during child birth, and conveniently pronounced her his true love and that in the event of his death he should be buried beside her. The King later decided it was time for him to marry, merely for political gain he agreed to marry Anne of Cle ves hoping their marriage would put an end to the religious problems of the German principalities (Weir 390) The King had never seen her in person, and had only received portraits which exaggerated her beauty. When they had finally met, like an immature child he was disappointed with her physicality, and thus the marriage started off on a bad foot. This marriage became annulled in 1540, with the excuse that the marriage had not been consummated and she had a pre-contract with another man. Another failed marriage did not stop Henry; he proceeded to become infatuated with the young Katherine Howard. Katherine Howard was thought to be an empty-headed and materialistic girl, only interested in her own personal affairs. This surely did bother the controlling King Henry All he asked of her was that she give him more sons (Weir 434). Marrying a girl with such little experience backfired on King Henry VIII, when she committed adultery with Thomas Culpepper, a member of the court, as well as a favorite of the King. Although Puerto Rican society has been racially mixed, issues such as class, imperialism, and outside prejudices have created a split between the different races. Although Isabel’s record of her family’s background begins much later, the roots of racial division in Puerto Rico started with the Spanish invasion of the island. Before the Spanish invasion in the 1500’s, Puerto Rico was populated by the native population known as the Taino. Once Puerto Rico was invaded by Spain, the Taino were marginalized by the Spaniards, thus creating the first racial conflict. This created both a racial and class segregation, for the upper class Spaniards had control over the island, while the native population was forced to flee or be forced to work for the invaders. The Spanish occupation of Puerto Rico also brought another aspect of race relations to the island. Unable to utilize the native population to their liking, they brought African slaves to work for them. This added to the racial mixture on the island.

The person that I interviewed is Sarah Arsenault, she is a registered nurse that works at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3). Among the things that caught my attention to interview her are: the preparation that involves being any type of practionner of medicine. How to be prepared to act in any different type of situations involving health matters. During the interview Sarah was very kind and gentle, we had a very nice sort of conversation instead of a strict session of questions and answers. We got along in a great way and the conversation allowed me to get to know about how nursing is in the United States. At the same time she was very open about her experiences and at some times even about her personal life. As soon as the interview started we were exchanging very funny comments, some about the questions that I asked, others about present issues and even one about â€Å"booze† or alcohol. It took me about 25 minutes to finish the process, this is probably because we had a fluent and nice conversation and not just went to straight to the matter. To start I asked about what inspired her to become a nurse, â€Å"My mom, she replied, growing up and watching her knowledge about the human body†, that resulted very exciting to Sarah and had influence in her choice of career. She explained to me the requirements to complete the nursing career; she studied at TC3 for 2 years to obtain an associate’s degree in order to become a nurse. At the moment she is studying to complete a bachelors degree. She made a joke about men being nurses; she said that still in these times is a bias for a man to be a nurse, although the number is slowly increasing in the US. Sarah loves her schedule at TC3, â€Å"great hours compared to a hospital† she said. When I asked her about how she deals with complaining patients her answer was: â€Å" With humor and telling them that they are being rude, if you want my help respect me†. After dealing with her patients Sarah feel a sense of satisfaction, joy perhaps, because being helpful makes her feel good, she  also appreciates the feedback from past patients. She expressed that she didn’t want to become a doctor because of the length of school here in the US. Among the rewarding things about her job are making relationships with people and the feedback they give her. When she feels stressed she likes to talk it out with her co-workers, a couple jokes and then all its fine. It was curious because when I asked this question her immediate answer was â€Å"Drinking† but we both knew it was a joke so we laughed for about a minute or so. This moment made her more confident and open towards me. She likes working with others over working by herself because she is a people’s person. Overall Sarah’s personality is very kind and open. I liked doing the interview because I learned a lot about nursing, their purposes, kindness and their willingness to help others. To me the interview was very clear and sincere. Sarah is a straight up person that talks in a direct form about every subject but at the same time enjoys helping others with her service and knowledge. To talk about nurses is a very important topic worldwide because they play a central role in delivering health care to the people. They promote health, educate patients about illness and injury, provide care and assist in cure. These are critical matters all around the world. Overall nurses provide many different services and this results very positive for society in general. This and many other reasons were the ones that made me one to interview a person involved in this world, in this case Sarah Arsenault. I am very glad to have performed this interview because now I see things related to this matter from a very different perspective than the one I had before.

Foderaro wrote an informational article to depict both sides of the argument in a fair and balanced manner. She was attempting to expose a possible academic problem and the solution and consequences of a change in school policy. The article covers how the prototype grade deflationary policy at Princeton affects students both academically and professionally. The students refute any positive effects with negative consequences such as how policy affects the students mentally, puts students at a competitive disadvantage, and creates unrealistic standards in grading. I agree and disagree with some of the students’ stances as there are always benefits and consequences to any policy. Princetonian students argue that the policy of limiting the number of A’s to just 35 percent of all grades given has detrimental effects on Princeton’s A- plus type body of students. They argue that the lowering of a students’ GPA through this policy makes it harder for the students to compete with other equally intelligent ivy-league students who are not affected by the policy. Conner Kolter Hualapai Language Revitalization and Literacy The Hualapai Indians, like many other indigenous societies, have faced the continuing threat of losing their culture. For this particular society, through perseverance, hard work and a helping hand from many people outside the Native American community, the Hualapai’s have been able to provide a writing system for their endangered language. This step has proven to be crucial in keeping the language and has also become an example for other Native American tribes who worry about their mother language becoming extinct.This success story has become a symbol that not all is lost if effort is put into something that is deeply cared about. A culture and society’s language is one of, if not the most, important aspects to what makes them different from everyone else. Without that attribute, the people that belong to that language can feel lost and lose a sense of who they are. In the Hualapai culture, members who were i n school in the 1930’s were forced to attend an English-only speaking school where the Hualapai language would be physically beaten out of them.Those children, who are now the grandparents of the present children of the small tribe, stress the importance of learning their native language considering how large a presence English has around them.
